H. Les Kornblatt, CPA/ABV, CVA, CFF
H. Les Kornblatt is the founder and sole shareholder of H. Les Kornblatt,
an Accountancy Corporation (incorporated in California in 1981), d.b.a.
KORNBLATT & Co., APC. Mr. Kornblatt has in excess of thirty-five years
experience as a certified public accountant, practicing in the areas of
auditing, financial reporting, income tax compliance, business valuation,
forensic accounting and litigation and business consulting services, He is
also a Certified Valuation Analyst and has participated and supervised
the valuations of hundreds of small and mid-sized businesses and
professional practices. He has qualified as an expert witness on
numerous occasions in California, New York, Washington superior courts,
mediations and arbitration hearings. Mr. Kornblatt and his wife, Robin,
are residents of Palm Desert, California.
Mr. Kornblatt commenced his professional career during his junior year
of college. He was selected as one of thirteen outstanding students from
San Francisco bay area colleges and universities to participate in the
Internal Revenue Service’s national pilot work-study program and
received training and experience, for two years, as an IRS field agent.
Upon graduation from college, Mr. Kornblatt joined the audit staff of a
“big 8” CPA firm (Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co.) where he participated and
advanced to a supervisory role in the financial audits of television, film,
and computer industry clients. It was during this period that Mr.
Kornblatt became acquainted with “forensic accounting”, as he
participated in several investigatory accounting assignments.
After approximately four years in public accounting, Mr. Kornblatt
accepted a controller position with one of his public company clients.
During the next four years, Mr. Kornblatt served as a controller of a six-
branch bank and corporate controller of a publicly-owned electronics
manufacturer with subsidiaries and divisions in the United States and
Mr. Kornblatt re-entered public accounting as an audit manager with
Gursey Schneider & Co., a burgeoning west Los Angeles CPA practice
that was beginning to specialize in business valuation and litigation
support engagements, related primarily, to family law matters. After two
years, he was elected as a general partner wherein he served the next
sixteen years supervising financial audits, income tax, business valuation,
and litigation support engagements. The litigation related engagements
often required Mr. Kornblatt to testify as a financial expert in California
superior courts in several southern California counties and he has served,
frequently, as a California Evidence Code §730 evaluator.
In 1997, Mr. Kornblatt sold his interest in his Los Angeles-based practice
and relocated with his family to Bellevue, Washington. During the three-
year period in Washington, Mr. Kornblatt remained profesionally active
as a shareholder in a local CPA practice and supervised the firm’s,
business valuation and litigation support practice.
In August 2000, Mr. Kornblatt joined Maryanov Madsen Gordon &
Campbell, a highly-regarded Coachella Valley CPA practice as a principal
and director of the firm’s new valuation and litigation practice. During
the next few years, he developed and expanded that firm’s Valuation
and Litigation Services Section, while gaining the reputation as one of
the most knowledgeable and experienced business valuation analysts
and forensic accountants in the desert. During his five-year tenure with
MMGC, Mr. Kornblatt has had the opportunity of providing his unique,
value-added services to many of the Coachella Valley’s preeminent
litigators, including, but not limited to, Richard Houghton, Jon
Shoenberger, Sheila Williams, Brian Harnik, David Baron, Basil
Chapman, Virginia Criste, James Jackson, Dale Gribow, Donald Griffith,
Charlotte Sternlieb, Carolyn Holt Martino, Nathan Rosenberg, Michael
Kaiser, Barbara Kristal, Richard Trugman, Joseph Gibbs, Henry Casden,
Mark Gershenson, Frederic Wieder, Thurman Arnold, III, Warren Camp,
Lawrence Novack, William Lively (Valencia) and others.
In April 2005, Mr. Kornblatt commenced his practice as KORNBLATT &
Co., in Palm Desert, where he continues to serve Coachella Valley clients
by providing his unique services.
Mr. Kornblatt graduated from California State University, San Francisco,
with a degree in Business and Accounting. Since then, in addition to
meeting the continuing educational requirements of the accounting
profession, Mr. Kornblatt received a Certificate of Educational
Achievement in Business Valuation, the Accredited in Business Valuation
(ABV) designation and Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF) credential
by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). He has
also completed the rigorous business valuation training program offered
by the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts.
Mr. Kornblatt is a member of the Forensic and Valuation Services Section
of the AICPA,, the Business Valuation and Family Law Committees of the
California Society of Certified Public Accountants, the National
Association of Certified Valuation Analysts, and the Desert Bar
Teaching and Publications
Mr. Kornblatt is a former instructor of business, accounting and computer
applications at the College of the Desert in Palm Desert, California. He
has contributed numerous articles to various publications on the subjects
of business valuation, litigation services, and the income tax aspects of a
marital dissolution. He has offered seminars on business valuation for
various professional groups including the National Association of
Accountants, the King County (WA) Bar Association, the Desert Bar
Association and the Desert Estate Planning Council. He also served as an
Executive-in-Residence at the Richard Heckmann School of Management
Palm Desert campus of the University of California at Riverside.
